Local Community, Real Food

farming for mutual benefit.

CSA is a social and agricultural movement that encourages small farm preservation and profitability by directly linking a local farmer with local community members.  Little Red Organics is a busy, busy place in the summer.  While we do a number of farmers markets, and grow wholesale crops, our focus is on providing our CSA Members with high quality veggies.  Why?  Our community members are the backbone of this farm.  By purchasing a share in advance of the season, members have made a commitment to supporting the farm for a full season.  In return, we give CSA members first choice on seasonal produce.   When you purchase one of our shares you really have a choice!  All of our veggie shares are 100% customizable.  That means that each week you can use our online store to select what you want, and all fresh harvested veggies are harvested on Wednesday for delivery on Thursday.  This means your food waste will be lower since fresh veggies are not only tastier, but last longer as well.   Members also have the choice of being participants in their food through our workshare program.

We start planning during the winter.  By February we have seeds started in the greenhouses, even if CSA sales haven’t started yet.  When the veggies start rolling in June, we start CSA deliveries. We deliver on Thursdays from mid-June until the end of September, 16 weeks in all.  The season is shorter than 2018.  We currently deliver to Hamlin Lake, Free Soil, Ludington, and Manistee. We offer fully customizable weekly veggie boxes of varying sizes that our members can manage through a simple online platform.

All of our veggie shares are customizable.  Each week during the season you will receive an email notification that our webstore has opened.  Through the webstore, you can change your share contents to suit your needs. When you purchase a share, you create an account credit.  Each week, your account will be debited with the value of your delivery.  Your box size and value can change each week, as you wish. At the end of the season, you are responsible for using up remaining credit, or paying for veggies if you use more than your share’s budgeted amount.

2019 April Update

There are plenty of flower shares available, however the CSA is currently at membership capacity on veggie boxes.  If you are interested in a veggie box, please contact us by email with your preferred share size and pickup location so that we can get you on the waitlist.  There is a possibility that we will release more shares in late June or early July.

“Food and health are a passion in our household. I need to know where my food comes from and I exhaust great effort into finding things I feel good about eating. The environment, health, and a sense of community are the fundamentals of survival, all so complexly intertwined. It’s been an unfathomable luxury to have such quality food at a incredible convince. The produce and service you folks provide is worth an unmeasurable amount. Honestly, we thank you so very, very much!”

“I love this program, it’s a brilliant concept! We are thrilled to be eating and trying new things and also supporting a local Free Soil farm, my husband grew up there, we know the farm well and appreciate that we can pick up the items in Ludington where we live now. Great work, can’t wait to see what’s next!”

“I liked being able to choose our own produce each week, it was nice to choose things that I knew my family would eat. But I also knew that if I didn’t get around to customizing the box that we would receive a nice variety of veggies that I could easily incorporate into our meals. The ordering system was easy to navigate from my perspective.”
